April-October is ideal, with the Li River at its most scenic from May to July when water levels are high. September-October offers clear skies and comfortable temperatures. Avoid major Chinese holidays (May 1-5, Oct 1-7) when sites are very crowded.
How long does the Li River cruise take?
The classic cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo takes about 4 hours. Boats depart from Zhujiang Pier (40 min from Guilin city) around 9-10am. An optional shorter bamboo raft section (Xingping to Nine Horse Fresco) takes about 40 minutes β perfect for photography.
